Navigation Forum: dynamic development of the GLONSS system

The 10th International Navigation Forum, held at Expocentre Fairgrounds as part of the international exhibition for navigation systems, technologies and services Navitech 2016, hosted a plenary meeting.

The participants in the meeting were Aide to the President of Russia Igor Levitin, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Alexey Tsydenov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Alexander Morozov, President of NP GLONASS Alexander Gurko, and other leading Russian experts in satellite navigation as well as their colleagues from other countries.

The speakers pointed out that navigation technologies in our country are successfully used in many economic sectors: transportation and power industry, construction, agriculture and defence industry. The GLONASS technologies save lives of people on the roads, monitor passenger and cargo traffics, control the performance of emergency service and public utilities. GLONASS uses over three million devices all around the world. Positioning precision increased several-fold.

Today, innovative commercial and industrial products are made through integration of opportunities of satellite navigation, mobile communication, microelectronics, automotive industry, and information technology.

A good example of such integration, in the opinion of the meeting participants, is a national accident emergency response system ERA GLONASS. Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergey Ivanov said in his welcome address to the forum participants that the system was launched the year before. He emphasized that Russia was the first country to apply satellite navigation to ensure transport safety.

Sergey Ivanov expressed confidence that “the forum participants will consider a wide range of issues connected with further development of local navigation IT and strengthening of international collaboration in this field”.
