The Internet of Things (IoT) showcases future technology

You can see navigation novelties and indoor location technology at Navitech 2016 which runs at Expocentre Fairgrounds from May 10 through 13. The trade show brings together leading Russian and international designers and manufacturers of navigation equipment, services and software including mapping applications. Navitech mirrors the latest global trends and development of national information resources being a key trade show for the industry experts. Navitech is the only trade show of navigation technologies in Russia.

At the 10th International Navigation Forum, which is traditionally co-located with the Navitech exhibition at Expocentre, the market players will present not only navigation projects but also geo-services for IoT. They will discuss novelties in indoor navigation and analyze the solutions implemented in Russia.

The IoT is one of the most important technology trends nowadays. According to IT experts, in the nearest five years this technology will bring about drastic changes along with great opportunities. IoT is the future that has already come. We are surrounded by devices used in city utilities, automotive systems and even homes. The devices constantly gather and generate data which can be collected, stored and analyzed using IT tools thus acquiring new knowledge for more effective use of technologies. It can be said with confidence that it is a promising development path for many industry experts. At the moment it is rather a small market segment that is open for new participants.

Along with the IoT, issues of indoor navigation have become even more important lately as well as provision of visitors with location and preference based services. We spend most of the time in different buildings that is why geolocation and navigation systems are essential.

A person with installed mobile app, when entering the zone of one or two beacons, can use indoor navigation and location-based services (LBS) using his/her smartphone. They allow determining location of a person to the nearest centimeter. Internal sensors built into smartphones, e.g., accelerometers, gyroscopes, cameras, compasses, and external iBeacon/Wi-Fi also ensure high accuracy. It is extremely comfortable for business because almost all visitors have smartphones today.

Prospects of indoor location are great. The technology market is growing rapidly. Therefore the use of new tools, which combine different approaches to setting indoor navigation, is one of effective ways to develop traditional navigation schemes.
